Modeling, NPDES Permitting, and Construction Permitting Dominion Energy, A.M. Williams Station -Water-Environment-Consultants
Goose Creek, SC

Modeling, NPDES Permitting, and Construction Permitting Dominion Energy, A.M. Williams Station

• WEC was awarded the contract to provide regulatory compliance support to multiple plant projects requiring specialized, fast-tracked NPDES and wastewater construction permits.

• Services included numerical modeling through the CORMIX and EFDC models and NPDES and construction permitting support. The project required close coordination with the design firms (Fluor) to lower the treatment system cost and expedite permitting process.

Archroma NPDES Permitting Support-Water-Environment-Consultants
Martin, SC

Archroma NPDES Permitting Support

• While maintaining its primary business focus, Archroma found itself with extra capacity in its treatment system and a favorable discharge location in the Savannah River.
• WEC worked with Anchroma and SCDHEC to negotiate an NPDES permit allows Archroma to leverage its treatment capacity for additional revenue.
Auriga Polymers-Water-Environment-Consultants-background
Spartanburg, SC

Auriga Polymers, Inc.

• WEC provided Auriga with NPDES permit recommendations and application renewal support.

• Services included review of existing permit limits and wasteload allocation, field measurements for bathymetry and current velocity, and CORMIX modeling for whole effluent toxicity.

Duke Energy, Asheville Energy Plant-Water-Environment-Consultants-background
Skyland, NC

Duke Energy, Asheville Energy Plant

• WEC developed permit limits for temperature within a sufficient NPDES compliance margin for a new combined cycle power plant.

• Project including field measurements for bathymetry and current velocities as well as CORMIX modeling, resulting in temperature limits for a long-term operational cost savings for the plant.

Duke Energy, W.S. Lee Station-Water-Environment-Consultants
Belton, SC

Duke Energy, W.S. Lee Station

WEC revised the NPDES permit limitations for temperature and whole effluent toxicity (WET) for Duke Energy’s existing and new and natural gas plants, resulting in capital and operation cost savings for the plant.

• Project included field measurements for bathymetry and current velocities, numerical modeling with EFDC, and permitting support.

Evonik Corporation, Bushy Park Facility-Water-Environment-Consultants-background
North Charleston, SC

Evonik Corporation, Bushy Park Facility

• Evonik Corporation was evaluating two potential sites for a new, precipitated silica plant, and obtaining a favorable NPDES permit was a primary deciding factor. WEC obtained the required NPDES and wastewater construction permits for the treatment and discharge of a highly salty wastewater into the Cooper River, South Carolina.

• WEC used the CORMIX model to design a single-port diffuser resulting in favorable whole effluent toxicity limits and the EFDC model to ensure the discharge would not affect the dissolved oxygen within the river.

Lancaster County Water and Sewer District, Indian Land WWTP
Lancaster County, SC

Lancaster County Water and Sewer District, Indian Land WWTP

• Under contract with MBD Consulting Engineers, P.A., WEC provided NPDES permit and outfall design support for a proposed WWTP upgrade.

• Services included field measurements for bathymetry, current velocity, and temperature as well as multiple CORMIX modeling scenarios for various outfall configurations. The project resulted in whole effluent toxicity (WET) limitations with sufficient compliance margin for the plant expansion and addressed NPDES permit limits for future expansion plans.

CORMIX Modeling and Diffuser Plan-Water-Environment-Consultants
Saluda, SC

CORMIX Modeling and Diffuser Plan

• WEC was subcontracted by MBD Engineering Consultants to perform CORMIX modeling to design a single-port diffuser that provides rapid mixing for meeting whole effluent toxicity (WET) limits and enhances instream uses.
